Hi

I received an amazing package from Coree and I am feeling inspired. Working on some KINGS mixes and several blog posts that are long gestating and long overdue.

If any one in my tiny circle is doing what I asked, please, send me a message in some electronic format and tell me they saw this. So I know I'm not alone out here.

Real progress and updates:

COMING SOON

FUCK THIS BLOG (and all blogs, and everyone, everything, all mice included...)

It seems to me that this blog, like all blogs, started out as something inspired and upbeat and then decayed, as all blogs do, into confusion and inactivity and muddling of the point of it all. In that way, at least, I feel very much at one with the UNIVERSE, the collective unconscious, what it is to be human. And, thus, this blog has been littered with that eternal mating call of blogs, that "oh I'm sorry I haven't updated in forever and I promise to change that, starting NOW, this is a NEW DAY" thing. AKA the worthless promise of a fickle modern human. The inability to stick to something and keep at it and plug away. And I am that human. I am that person. I am no better than any other person, blogger or otherwise. The distinction for me being that my blog/s isn't/aren't even of any fucking interest to anyone, save maybe 2 or 3 friends. So I find myself doing that apologize thing and try to make up for laxness thing but the thing is...

WHO CARES???

No one.

No one is out there watching and waiting and caring and bumming that there aren't more posts on this or that of my stupid little blogs. And, in the meantime tumblr has kind of stepped in and taken over as the "new blog". The new thing we all start and then leave dangling endlessly and pointlessly and expect or hope or think someone else is going to care and take notice of and in the same time pinterest has come along and sort of one-upped tumblr. And somewhere in there is twitter. And the thing is

WHO FUCKING CARES???

No one.

None of this is reaching anyone. None of this matters in any way at all. We are all just reinventing livejournal over and over again and again and again in different ways. And we all know where LJ is now. Alive, amazingly enough, but like, who gives a shit. Just like all of our blogs and tumblrs and twitters. Yes we're out here, they're out there. But who the fuck cares? I really don't at all. And I'm assuming few others do either.

So, that being said brings me to my point. Here's a post in this stupid fucking blog, that no one will read or care about, even I probably will never reread it. And its not one of those posts to proclaim that I'm suddenly going to get back on the horse and start posting all the time, because who fucking cares other than me if I do or not. And it's not a post to apologize to a faceless, invisible mass of non-existent people for not posting more, as if there are all these people out there just fucking hanging on my every word or notion. There aren't. And to anyone else out there that puts themselves thought this same shit, let me assure you. There aren't.

LET'S NOT SHIT OURSELVES.

We are talking to ourselves and that is it. That is all. The only person that cares about these shitty little self-obsessed things we create is ourself, ourselves, is me. Is you.

So this is not for you. I don't know you, I'll never know you. And moreover, more to the point

THERE IS NO YOU.

There is only me in here. So I'm going to act accordingly. This is for me. For better or worse. This is just me, talking to me, with no point whatsoever. I am not going to pledge to blog more or to update more or to be more on the ball. I am not going to promise to overhaul this thing. I am not going to try to "get it back on track" with its original intentions and I'm certainly not going to continue in the same vein that it had gotten into. I'm not going to make any of those stupid teenage life changing proclamations about how this is a new day and a new year and I'm going to shake out the old webs and start over and start new and blah blah fucking blah. Basically every last post on every single fucking blog in the world. Honestly, find any blog anywhere and it will have, as its last post, someone, like 4 years ago, saying that they're sorry and that this is the start of something new and pledging to keep at it and plug away and be consistent, after not having posted for over a year. And as I mentioned, that will, I guarantee you, be the last post on that blog, and it will be from like 2009. And that's fine, that is what it is, that is who we are and that is certainly who I am. I'm no better than the rest of the dross and the dreck out there. So why bother to say or do it if that's the case. Why bother to put it out there in the public, on the internet. If it's so for you Brian, why type it up at all, why not just think it or put it in a little journal and be done. I don't know.

And that's all I can really say at this point about this, or anything. It is all the same, it is all one thing, nothing is different, we are all the same things made up of the same things, doing the same things and failing in the same ways. All I know is that

I DON'T KNOW.

And we are all in the same fucking boat.
Whether that is a curse or a blessing, I have no clue.

TREE TORCH (2011)

Sigh.

One day I really am going to get my shit together and honor this blog correctly, often and on topic. Some day I really will get back to it's more major purpose, the chronicling and history of the KINGS mixes. Sadly, it is so hard for me to keep up with it. But hey, life is long. Someday (some day sooner for some of us) we're all going to be old and bored and have nothing to do with our lives, retired, children grown and moved away and starting their own families, etc... Luckily for me I'll have this silly blog to still be catching up on and KINGS mixes to write about. So I won't have to like, head down to the VFW hall to play bingo or whatever.

So, yes, no new relevant stuff here. Still trying and trying to just get current on the DJ stories. And to that end I offer you TREE TORCH. This is apparently becoming a tradition at Noni's. Sometime after the new year Matt likes to invite people to haul down their old dead Christmas trees and throw them on a huge bonfire that they make out in the back parking lot of the bar. Sounds dangerous and like a sure way to get the cops called right? Apparently it's not an issue.

This year the plan was to have a DJ set up inside and one outside in the January cold. My man Ryan B. Was sort of in charge of the music this eve and he invited me, a little last minute, to come share to mic with him. The plan being that we would switch off, inside and outside, hour by hour. So I showed up with my rig and set to work in the toasty bar with Ry-Ry outside in gloves. We went back and forth a couple times until it was apparent that no one, including us, wanted to go back out into the cold night, and all the Xmas trees were rendered ash.

It was fun, cold, not too crowded, but fun. There was one couple in particular that was digging what I was playing. I kind of approached the night as an anything goes type of deal, a chance to play a little heavier PILL-influenced set. And like all plans, it started out that way and then just kind of turned into whatever it wanted to be. I have one particularly fond memory of just blasting "Not In Love" outside to black, cloudless sky.

I wish I had Ryan's set to show you what was alternating, but alas, I do not.

GUSH (2)

Well, Jesus. I am really not doing much of a good job keeping up with any of my online lives. I prone to, as usual, apologize, but I feel like the people that could give a shit are such a short list I am going to refrain.

That being said I am like, not only so far behind on updating here and on THE WRAITH and so much has happened/so much new info has come in, respectively. I am like four going on five DJ nights behind. To the point that I am having trouble remembering anything about them.

This was the second official GUSH. I was feeling fired up by the success of the first GUSH. I was full of very large, very grand ideas. I figured this whole thing would be a series of steps, plateaus to be reached. X amount of fliering and promo and whatnot the first time had produced X amount of interest. Building on that I figured if I did more fliers, told more people and came up with cooler shit then we would be on the up and up.

This one was a lot of work beforehand and it was going to be a big deal. I made buttons:

which I was really proud of (and I promise are still coming in the mail to far away friends that want them. I've got sets set aside you y'all).

I made a huge backdrop:

to hang on the wall behind me while I DJ'ed, like the way bands will hang sheets behind them and project things on them. It was pretty much the size of our living room floor. Near the end of the night CJ came in briefly and I do recall saying fuck it and putting it up for the last hour or so, regardless of the low energy of the room.

I also fliered a lot more aggressively. BUT, all for not. This GUSH was a fucking bust. I mean there were folks and the bar sales were totally decent. No one felt like it was a failure. Except me. I had big ideas and I wanted the world to adhere to them. Sadly the world kicked back a whole lot fucking harder.

It did not get jumping. There was not really an outlet for button distribution (though, on the upside I gave a bunch out to friends and coworkers who were immediately supportive in wearing them, thank you guys) and it felt silly to go to the trouble of hanging the backdrop in a not-so-jumpin'-jumpin' room. I had fun, we all had fun, it was fine. People were there. It's just that it was not bigger than the last one. I guess, to be fair, it was right after Thanksgiving and it was cold as fuck. So I guess people were out of town and doing other shit and didn't feel like coming out. I understand. But, inside I was really let down. I felt discouraged that the amount of work that went into the night did not yield equivalent hype-ness.

This awfulness was then compounded by the fact that, as a result of the way the Fridays played out and the holidays that there was no GUSH in December. So, yes, insult and injury, cake and eat it too. A bad turn out followed by being sort of snubbed for a night. I'm not gonna lie, there was a moment when I was ready to blow the whole idea off and there were certainly people around me telling me that it was no big deal if I wanted to give up on the night. I mean, of course I wasn't going to really give up but for a minute I really wanted to. Luckily (for my ego and my faith in humanity and the notion that hard work and high quality result in results) the new year has seen a major turn around for those of us here at Team GUSH, as I will explain in upcoming posts.

In the meantime, the way I recall things, it went like this...
